According to research from the US Government, 6 out of 10 men and 5 out of 10 women will experience at least one trauma in their lives, and millions experience post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) every year. Lots of us experience it and don’t realize the ways it may stick around.
What is PTSD?
Synchronous Health Specialist, Nadia Aquino, notes: “If memories and thoughts of a life-threatening experience are upsetting you, you may have PTSD. PTSD is a psychiatric disorder that anyone can experience after living through or witnessing a traumatic event, such as a natural disaster, war, or family violence. The good news is that people with PTSD do not have to suffer alone and can improve their symptoms with the right kind of support.”
What are some ways you can address PTSD in your life?
As Nadia mentioned above, reaching out for support through counseling as well as support groups and community are key in trauma recovery. Other things like: regular exercise, spending time outdoors, doing activities you enjoy, eating healthy, and getting enough sleep have also been proven to be helpful.
