Mental Health Awareness Month

While mental health is always important to address, with May being the National Mental Health awareness month, perhaps we can use this as a time to re-calibrate our intentions and actions towards improving our mental health.

According to the CDC, more than 50% of Americans will be diagnosed with some sort of mental illness in their lifetime. CDC (2021)

As a reminder, here are some of the top reasons why your mental health is important (in no specific order):

  1. It affects how you think.
  2. it affects how you feel.
  3. It affects how you act.
  4. It helps determine how you handle stress.
  5. It helps determine how you relate to others.
  6. It helps determine how you make choices.
  7. It impacts your physical health.
  8. It impacts your level of creativity.
  9. It impacts your level of productivity.
  10. It impacts your ability to appreciate the good in life.

Synchronous Health Specialist, Carla Ayres, LCSW, notes “Mental health awareness encompasses all aspects of your health, mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. May is mental health awareness month and in recognition, it’s a chance to ponder how you have prioritized your mental health. Some ways you might engage in prioritizing your mental health include: meditation, journaling, spending time with family, friends, walking, hiking, or going for a bike ride. Our goal at Synchronous is to help you engage in all the above in a thoughtful, intentional, and effective manner.”

The specialists at Synchronous Health are called “specialists” because of their extensive training and ability to help you with all of the above by listening with empathy and helping you chart a course to help you meet your goals. Adventist Health believes in the importance of offering mental health support and include this program as a fully covered benefit. Not just in May but every month!
