Are you striving for perfection or excellence?

There is a difference between striving for excellence versus striving for perfection.

Striving for excellence is working hard toward a goal and doing your personal best to achieve it. Perfectionism is a focus on external perceptions of what is best in each situation. Perfection is unattainable and sets us up for failure. It is estimated that over 80% of people have experienced perfectionism and/or currently deal with perfectionistic tendencies, and 49% identify as people pleasers.

Rooted in a deep desire to matter, perfectionism is a characteristic where anything less than perfect, is an unacceptable outcome. Striving for perfectionism, comes with increased stress, anxiety and other negative impacts on our emotional and physical well-being and we may feel the need to perform to earn approval.
